Work continues in Mules: final lining completed at the Trens emergency stop

At the Mules construction site excavation work is moving forward, and not only using tunnel boring machines. While TBM Flavia is bearing down on the border, another milestone has been reached at the Trens emergency stop, where the final lining has now been completed. This marks a significant step forward in the overall progress of the works.

At the Mules construction site, the largest in the BBT project, work is ongoing on several fronts. On one side, TBM Flavia is forging ahead in the western main tunnel and is now just over 100 metres away from the Brenner Pass. On the other, drill & blast excavation is proceeding on the bypasses along both main tunnels.

In recent days, with the installation of the dome, the final lining along the Trens emergency stop has been completed. About two weeks ago, in the early hours of Monday, on March 24th, the precise removal of several tubbing rings enabled the blasting breakthrough between the final cross-passage of the emergency stop and the eastern main tunnel. The breakthrough created a direct link between the emergency stop and the eastern main tunnel, marking another major step forward in the construction process.
