BBT SE employs more than 180 employees from a wide variety of disciplines, including geologists and hydrogeologists, surveyors, excavation engineers, environmental engineers, materials experts, lawyers and specialists in the field of administration. They work in the two company offices in Innsbruck and in Bolzano and at the construction sites.

Georg Orsi

Georg Orsi

Geologist
„Above-ground prospection activities such as drilling or mapping allow us to create geological predictions of the types of rock or faults that the tunnel will encounter. This allows us to optimize tunnel planning and save both time and money during construction.”
Andrea Lussu

Andrea Lussu

Construction lot coordinator
„I am the project coordinator for the H33 Tulfes/Pfons construction lot. Which means that I coordinate the roughly 500 people that work on this construction lot. Because the better everyone works together, the faster and cheaper it is to build the tunnel.”
Ingrid Ruhland

Ingrid Ruhland

Accountant
“Since the Brenner Basetunnel project is financed by public funds (Austria, Italy, EU) it is important to give our financing parties a constantly updated overview of the costs borne for the project. Another important task is the timely payment of our contractors.”
Josef Steck

Josef Steck

Responsible for Disposal Sites
„Disposing of tunnel spoil in a landfill provides opportunities to change the shape of parts of the countryside. We take great care and are mindful of our responsibility in embedding these disposal sites into the existing landscapes in a harmonious manner.”
Liane Wagger

Liane Wagger

Legal expert
„In Austria, we must sign about 3,500 contracts with landowners. We are obliged to this, because in Austria land ownership does not only concern the surface: it goes all the way to the centre of the Earth. In personal negotiations, I try to reach an agreement with the owners concerning easements that will allow us to build the Brenner Base Tunnel under - and therefore through - their land.”
Alexandra Wolkenstein

Alexandra Wolkenstein

Biologist
„Our goal is to develop the project in an environmentally friendly manner, in order to protect nature as much as possible, recover it where needed and preserve it sustainably, as a vital element of people’s lives.“
Chris Reinhold

Chris Reinhold

Geotechnics expert
„Geotechnics experts interpret geological conditions, define the physical characteristics of the rock mass, observe the behaviour of the rock mass and plan the consolidation and support measures needed for a safe and effective tunnel excavation.“
Tobias Cordes

Tobias Cordes

Tunnel statistician and concrete specialist
„The tunnel lining must be able to stand up to various stresses, such as the pressure of the rock mass, the pressure of underground water, built-in structures, fire and earthquakes. To do this, the behaviour of concrete, steel and rock has been described with special material regulations in order to simulate the deformation the tunnel undergoes due to these stresses. In this way, the Brenner Base Tunnel is safe and materials are used efficiently.”
Esther Bartel

Esther Bartel

Excavation geologist
„As an excavation geologist, I document the actual geological situation while excavating (after a blast, at the TBM and when drilling). This documentation includes descriptions of the stone, the rock mass and the underground waters we encounter.”
Christian Schwarz

Christian Schwarz

Geophysicist
„I am a geophysicist with BBT SE. Using sound waves, I “look” into the mountain and make a picture of the rock mass. This preliminary prospection improves both the planning and the safety of the construction work.

The Brenner Base Tunnel project includes numerous areas of knowledge and work. The main people building the structures are civil engineers and construction workers, miners, mechanics and electricians. A project of this size also requires the knowledge and efforts of environmental engineers, geologists and geotechnical experts and lawyers, financial experts, physicists, experts in construction materials and construction managers for the administrative area.
