Today, in the press conference held at the H53 Pfons-Brenner construction site, the Tyrolean Councillor for Transport, the Environment and the Protection of Natural Resources René Zumtobel pointed out that the Wipp valley is far more burdened by traffic than other regions. This means that extra care was taken in the works for the Brenner Base Tunnel to avoid impacting the quality of life of the population of this lovely valley.
The tubbing rings are transported by rail by ÖBB Rail Cargo working with the H53 contractor consortium, thus avoiding a total of 45,000 lorry trips, cutting down on heavy vehicle traffic and improving traffic flow. Solutions like this are essential for the progress of the project, the quality of life for the local population and to protect the environment.
In the afternoon, the participants had the opportunity to visit the site to see the progress of the works from up close; two TBMs are active in this lot, excavating northwards and thanks to the progress here, there will soon be an uninterrupted link between Austria and Italy.
