Works on the Schindlergraben in Fortezza completed

The Regional Office for Torrent and Avalanche Control North of the Province of Bolzano was able to use BBT compensation funds to secure the slopes of the Schindlergraben in Franzensfeste and the buildings of the neighbouring residents.

During the storms of September 2009, the Eisack feeder road Schindlergraben, which also flows through the municipal area of Franzensfeste, overflowed the Riolstraße in Franzensfeste and several surrounding houses and caused major damage. It was therefore necessary to carry out slope protection work and water protection measures in the affected area: A retention basin for possible debris flows was built and the Schindlergraben was diverted into the Riol stream.

The securing and construction work was financed by the project company BBT SE as part of the BBT compensation measures and carried out by the Regional Office for Torrent and Avalanche Control North of the Province of Bolzano.

The construction work has already been completed and rockfall fences will be erected before the site is planted with native plants in spring.

The total costs of the construction work and protective measures amount to around 560,000 euros.
