A new milestone has been reached for the H53 Pfons-Brenner construction lot in the Austrian part of the BBT project, in the geologically challenging area of Hochstegen.
A breakthrough took place yesterday in the southward excavation in the east main tunnel, about 1,200 metres below the Padauner Kogel peak in the township of Steinach am Brenner. Excavation work in that stretch is being carried out using drilling and blasting.
It’s an important milestone for the H53 consortium and for BBT SE. So far 196 km of tunnel have been excavated, 85% of the entire project.
