The Brenner Base Tunnel - a new link through the Alps

29 A separate access tunnel, the Saxener tunnel, was built for the construction site in Wolf at Steinach. All site traffic exits the A13 Brenner motorway at the road maintenance depot and passes through the Saxener tunnel directly to the site at Wolf. The urban area of Steinach therefore is not burdened with construction site traffic. Since 2016 the construction site at Wolf has also been provided with its own railway siding. Building materials and equipment are delivered and taken away directly by train. All site roads and temporary stored materials on construction sites are watered down to reduce dust. Vehicles and construction machinery are cleaned regularly. Material transport within the site is largely performed auto- matically using conveyor belts. All vehicles and construction equipment must comply with the latest technical standards. The construction site at Wolf has a direct access to the A13 Brenner motorway and, via its own track rail link, to the Brenner railway.
