Open Tunnel Day is back!! With lots of news from the Italian construction sites of the Brenner Base Tunnel

On 8 June, everyone is invited to the Isarco Underpass Construction Site near Fortezza. Starting from here, you can visit all the Italian construction sites of the Brenner Base Tunnel and find out all the latest news.

The Open Tunnel Day is a regular event held every year by the Brenner Base Tunnel company, to meet people living in the project area and beyond. Last year the event was held at the H41 Sill-Pfons Gorge site near Innsbruck and was a great success. This year it's in Italy again, where important news await the guests who visit the construction sites on 8 June.

Work on the Isarco Underpass site, where one of the tunnel portals is located, was completed in December 2023. In fact, the south portal of the tunnel is located on this very construction site, and it is open for visitors! Starting from this point, one day, travellers will be able to reach Innsbruck in just 25 minutes.

The re-naturation process is currently under way and it is estimated that as many as 50,000 plants will have been set by the end of this summer. Right here, at the Isarco River Underpass construction site, is the meeting point and the start of the guided tours to the other two sites in Hinterrigger and Mules.

The Hinterrigger tubbing ring factory, one of the stops on our guided tours, is where around 30 per cent of the spoil from tunnel excavation is recycled. This material is used to produce up to 250 tubbing rings per day, the prefabricated elements that make up the final lining of the tunnel.

And finally, in Mules, the largest construction site of the entire BBT project, two of the three tunnel boring machines have already reached the Brenner Pass and one of them, named Flavia, is only a few kilometres (just over 2) away from reaching its goal.

But these are just a few of the new stories we have for you... 8 June will be a day for everyone, with opportunities for learning and fun for all ages.

There is an exclusive immersive-reality show for our younger guests, as well as many other games (bouncy castles, magic shows, wooden toys, face-painting, etc.)

The event site is not accessible to personal vehicles and parking is forbidden in the area. For this reason, we advise travelling to the Fortezza railway station via public transportation. From there you are welcome to use our shuttle bus service.
