The German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the H41 Sill Gorge-Pfons construction lot together with the Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen. During their visit, the two heads of State were accompanied by their spouses, media representatives and a large delegation.
Governor Anton Mattle, also accompanied by his wife, warmly welcomed the two presidents in front of the portal to the Ahrental access tunnel on behalf of the province of Tyrol.
Martin Gradnitzer and Umberto Lebruto, the Board of Directors of BBT SE, together with project manager Romed Insam and employees of the Brenner Base Tunnel company and the construction consortium H41, also welcomed the high-ranking delegation to the construction site.
After the joint press photos in front of the tunnel portal, the convoy drove into the Ahrental access tunnel. In the large underground cross-chamber, the delegation was able to see into both the main west and east tunnels. The Board of Directors of BBT SE, Gradnitzer and Lebruto, explained the various construction stages and the successful progress of the works to the heads of State. Project manager Insam also provided information about the special geological and structural challenges of this construction lot. After visiting the main tunnel tubes, the delegation stopped once again at the tunnel portal. There, the two heads of State gave statements to the assembled media representatives.
With their visit to the construction site, the German and Austrian presidents and the Tyrolean governor highlighted the importance of the Brenner Base Tunnel as a connecting infrastructure project in Europe.
