Did you know …
... that 17 million cubic meters would fit into a cube 257 meters high?
... that the volume of spoil to be deposited is roughly 17 million m³?
... that the BBT, at 64 km in length, will be the longest underground railway line in the world?
... that 1,350 water resource measuring points are checked every month in the project area?

Excavation works start-up again
The first volley of blasting for the excavation of the Periadriatic fault is scheduled for December 21st 2011. In the next two years approximately further 2km of the exploratory tunnel towards Brenner Pass will be excavated. During this time lapse, also two big caverns will be built in the underground, where in future the tunnel boring machine necessary for the excavation of both main tubes will be assembled. Furthermore, a connection between the main tubes and the exploratory tunnel will be built, which will be of particular importance in the construction phase in order to transport the spoil through the exploratory tunnel to Aica by means of a conveyor belt.
Construction works for this contract lot are carried out by the bidding consortium "Consorzio Brennero 2011", which is composed by the member companies: P.A.C. and Oberosler, the construction company Implenia from Switzerland and Cogeis.
The Observatory for the Environment and Workplace Safety is in charge of the supervision of construction works.
